Six Steps from Mark Sheet
to Officer Rank.
Every milestone mapped. No surprises. No guesswork. Just the clearest path from Class XII to your first posting aboard a deep-sea vessel.

Know Before You Apply
Deck and Engine courses require Class XII with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (PCM) — minimum 60% aggregate. ETO accepts PCM or Physics + Maths combinations. Age: 17–25 years at time of joining.
Vision standard: 6/6 unaided (Deck). Colour blindness disqualifies Deck cadets; ETO and Engine have relaxed norms. We run a free pre-screening before you fill a single form.

Crack the National Entrance
Indian Maritime University Common Entrance Test (IMU-CET) is held twice a year. The exam covers Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, English, and General Aptitude — 200 questions, 3 hours.
Helm's 90-day IMU-CET boot camp has produced 312 top-100 rankers since 2018. Mock tests, chapter-wise analytics, and a doubt-clearing hotline are included in all courses.

Fit for Sea Service
DGS-approved medical examination covers vision, colour perception, hearing, blood pressure, and general fitness. The medical is conducted at DGS-empanelled hospitals — Helm schedules it for you.
We partner with clinics in Mumbai, Chennai, Kochi, Visakhapatnam, and Kolkata. Medical clearance typically takes 3–5 working days. Helm's pre-medical advisory reduces failure rates by 40%.

Nothing Left to Chance
Class X and XII mark sheets, birth certificate, passport (6 months validity), medical fitness certificate, IMU-CET scorecard, and two passport photographs. All originals plus three attested sets.
Helm's Document Desk reviews your file before submission and flags gaps. We've processed 4,200+ admission files with zero rejections due to documentation errors.

Funding Your Sea Career
Sponsored cadets have their training fees and pre-sea training costs covered by a shipping company in exchange for a bond period of 18–36 months. Self-sponsored cadets pay fees independently and have full employer choice.
Helm holds placement agreements with 28 shipping companies including Maersk, Anglo-Eastern, and Synergy Group. Education loans up to ₹15 lakh available through partner banks with no collateral for top rankers.

The Gangway Awaits
Reporting date is typically 3–4 weeks after admission confirmation. Cadets arrive at Helm's residential campus in Navi Mumbai with their document file, uniform set (provided), and a readiness to work hard.
Day one begins with a campus orientation, simulator familiarisation, and the formal oath-taking ceremony. By week two, you're in the engine-room simulator logging watch hours.

Careers Forged, Not Just Certified.
"The bridge simulator at Helm had me doing ARPA collision avoidance exercises for 200 hours before I ever stood watch on a real vessel. My Chief Officer said I was the most prepared cadet he had seen in eight years."
"I was the first girl from my district to sign on as a Marine Engineer. Helm's engine-room simulator gave me the muscle memory to handle a real MAN B&W engine from day one. The sponsorship cell found me a berth with Synergy before I even graduated."

"Came in with a PCM background and no idea what an ETO does. Helm's faculty explained GMDSS, ECDIS, and integrated bridge systems so clearly that I scored 94 percentile in IMU-CET. Maersk picked me up before passing-out parade."
"My father is a fisherman. He didn't know the difference between a Deck Officer and a Marine Engineer. Helm's counsellors spent two hours with both of us explaining the career map. That conversation changed my family's life."
"The 800 simulator hours sounded intimidating at first. By month three I was troubleshooting fuel injection faults under timed conditions. When I joined MOL's chemical tanker in Singapore, I felt like I'd already been at sea for a year."

"I was an Engine Rating for five years. Helm's upgrade programme compressed the theory gap and got me through the MEO Class IV exam in one attempt. First salary as an officer: four times what I earned as a rating."
